RACE: The Power of an Illusion (Episode III: "The House We Live In")
Program Description:
Join us for a viewing and facilitated discussion of the award-winning documentary series by California Newsreel. RACE—The Power of an Illusion is a provocative three-hour series that questions the very idea of race as biology. Scientists tell us that believing in biological races is no more sound than believing the sun revolves around the earth. So if race is a biological myth, where did the idea come from? And why should it matter today?

A History of Black Madison
We invite community members of the Monona and Madison area to join us for an afternoon with Michael Johnson, President and CEO of Boys and Girls Club of Dane County to celebrate local Black History. As Michael emphasizes, "Sometimes we focus so much on slavery and the civil rights movement that we forget to share accomplishments achieved by African Americans in our own backyard." Michael will share his documentary, "A History of Black Madison" developed in partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Dane County and Madison365, and will discuss three key figures of Black History in the area.
Story Jam II
The Story Jam II is continuing the success established during Story Jam I.
This event features people of all ages sharing their personal stories with people of all ages.
Guided by emcee Kevin Wilmott II, selected individuals will share their story to an audience, similar to other nationally recognized programs like The Moth.
Last year we had over 70 people attend, and we expect as many people if not more, as well as tears, laughter, and community building much like the previous Story Jam.
Story Jam! One Community Many Voices
Join community members and MG21 students in a story extravaganza of personal narratives. Listen to voices of the Monona community and experience an evening of connection and sharing.
Emcee: acclaimed storyteller and local musician Kevin Willmott II.
